Pakistan Navy is one of the most integral branches of Pakistan Armed Forces and it is known for its services of protecting our ocean borders. Its main objective is to defend our ocean line, which is spread over more than 1000 kilometers, day and night. Pak Navy came into existence with the independence of Pakistan itself on 14 August 1947. Right now, 75 years have passed and Pak Navy has never been behind when it mattered the most.

Pak Navy History

Pakistan Navy has a rough history as it originated from the Royal Indian Navy which was divided among India and Pakistan after the independence by the two ratio one respectively. Initially, Pak Navy had to go through a lot of struggles with its 200 officers and 3000 sailors. It had to face issues such as lack of armory, lack of staff, lackness of properly trained engineers and technical staff etc. However, gradually and continuously, it overcame all of the hurdles and now the Pakistan Naval Force is considered as one of the best around the world.

The “Royal” tag with Pakistan Naval Force was due to its direct connection with the United Kingdom’ Naval Structure, although it was removed in 1956 when Pakistan became a Republic country. Pak Navy has provided its services for the Ministry of Defense as well as for the Ministry of Finance in several projects. In the 1960s, many successful submarine operations and experiments were conducted.

 In 1966, the Pakistan Navy introduced its special operations task force known as Navy Special Service Group or simply Navy SSG which has done some wonderful operations throughout the history. Since the 2000s, the Pakistan Navy has played a crucial role in UN Peacekeeping Missions. Besides those missions, it has helped many Muslim countries with in so many conflicts.

Pakistan Navy is one of the biggest and powerful navies around the globe. As of now, Pak Navy has 54,100 total active personnel consisting of 35,300 active-duty officers and sailors, 5,000 reserve force, 12,000 Marines, 4,000 Maritime Security Agency, 2,800 civilian personnel, 154 ships and 85 aircraft. Its majestic Fleet includes 10 Frigates, 2 Destroyers, 6 Corvettes, 5 Submarines, 3 midget submarines, 48 Patrol Vessels, 7 Fast Attack Craft, 4 Patrol Craft, 54 High Speed Boats, 6 Auxiliaries, 3 Mine Countermeasure vessels, 2 Research & Survey Vessels and 4 Support Ships which are all working so well.

Pakistan Navy Organization

The Pakistan Navy works in an organized way so there’s very little space for failure or mistakes. Leadership in the Pakistan Navy is given by the Ministry of Defense which leads and controls what goes in the Navy. Pak Navy is led by The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), who is an appointed four-star rank admiral, is a principal military adviser on naval security affairs to the Federal government and is a senior member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC). The latter is actually a military body that advises and briefs the elected civilian Prime Minister and its executive cabinet on national security affairs and operational military matters under the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Pakistan Navy Administrative branches consist of Naval Operations, Logistics, Judge Advocate General Corps, Weapons Engineering Branch, Aviation, Medical, Naval Intelligence, Navy Seals and, last but not the least, Special Branch. On the other hand, Pakistan Naval Command has different commanding officers who lead distinctive fleets in missions.

Pak Navy Philosophy

The Pakistan Navy is dedicated to protect our sea lines communications against the Indian Navy in particular because they blocked our ways in the 1971 war and we failed to protect Eastern side of Pakistan. After that, Pak Navy has learnt not to leave sea lines unattended. Furthermore, Pak Navy only participates in those international missions which would ultimately benefit the national interests. That’s why Pak Navy officers are selected on the basis of their intelligence, strategic mindset and experience so that they could contribute in the progressive steps.

Pakistan Navy has advanced level armory and doesn’t hesitate to use it when the threat arises. Pakistan has good relations with China, Britain and America so it imports major military equipment from these countries. In addition, Pak Navy has started producing international level equipment locally by taking the help of genius Pakistani engineers. Pak Navy has more than sixteen submarines and more than a hundred vessels to its name.

Pak Navy also has many aircrafts for surveillance and defense purposes. Technological advancement in the military has led to Pak Navy having underwater missiles that can destroy the enemy even before it enters our ocean borders. All in all, waging a war against Pakistan is not a piece of cake because of our super strong armed forces. Instead, many Superpower countries take Pak Navy’s help to train their new officers and sailors.

Pak Navy Hospitals

Besides its excellent services on sea lines, Pakistan Naval Force also helps the nation with amazing Pak Navy Hospitals. There are a total of four Pak Navy Hospitals all over the country. First one is the PNS Shifa Hospital which has 600 beds and highly qualified medical staff. PNS Hafeez Hospital is the second hospital which has a 200 bed capacity.

 Third one is PNS Rahat Hospital and it too has 200 beds and is always active in the time of emergency. Fourth major hospital is the PNS Darmanjha Hospital with one hundred beds. Last but not the least is PNS Rehmat Hospital with 100 beds but it is especially made for Gwadar port city.
